Joining God in Plowing New Fields in Northern Thailand - November 24, 2017

Urgent Prayers Needed.

As I sit down and write this prayer update, it is Thanksgiving evening in the USA but it is Friday morning here in Northern Thailand and we want to ask all of you in the USA to please offer a prayer for us as we are just beginning an "English Fun Day" out in one of the villages near Payao.

We have an awesome team from Australia with us lead by Pastor Luke Hester as well as some of our great Teachers at Grace Language School along with awesome Staff and university student helpers.

Pray as we bless the community and get a chance to share about the holiday of Christmas. Most of these children have never, ever, seen a Westerner and I would also estimate that this will be the first time that most of them have ever heard the story of the birth of Jesus.

Please pray for a special touch from our Lord as we reach out to these precious children. This school is also a special treat because of Teacher Kaewtha is one of our former students at Grace Language School and is now a full time teacher at this school.

What a great joy it is for us to be joining God in His great work here in Northern Thailand.

Your Servants to the Nations in and around Northern Thailand,

Michael for the team

Thailand is in Mourning - Please Pray for Thailand today - October 26, 2017

Friends, Family, and Partners in Ministry

Romans 12:15b. "....weep with those who weep."

Today the whole nation of Thailand is mourning the loss of their beloved king, and we too are weeping with the Thai people and praying that their hearts will be open to hear the hope of the gospel and the lasting help for hurting souls which is found in Christ alone. Please pray for Thailand and for Thai people in every part of the world as they grieve on this day.

Thailand Update - Lighting Up The Darkness - Phase 2 - Oct 20, 2017

Dear Friends, Family, and Partners,

We are writing to follow up with our friends, family, and partners in ministry on some of what God is doing here in Thailand and to bring you into the loop as to what we envision for the days ahead regarding our project of “Lighting up the Darkness.”

God has already provided us with an awesome piece of land that is now officially registered and owned by Channel of Blessing Foundation, which, for all practical purposes, is the Field Foundation of NTIM. Many of you have given specifically for the purchase of land over the past two years and because of your generosity, we were able to complete phase 1 of our project which was the purchase of land.

We are now beginning Phase II and want to ask for your help as we begin this new phase of preparing to put up a useful multi-purpose facility that can be used to expand the Kingdom of God and enhance our ability to reach some of the least reached people groups in our world today. Below is a picture of piece of land God has given us.

Short Background Summary
We have been sensing from God that it is time for the work here in Thailand to establish a more permanent presence and say to “the darkness” that God’s work of transforming the Thai people in Northern Thailand is here to stay! Hope and I have been in Thailand for almost 19 years now (Jan 13, 2018 will be our 19 year anniversary), including the first two years in language school in Bangkok when our children were young. We moved to the city of Chiangrai in Northern Thailand in July 2001, 16 years ago. Chiangrai is considered the heart of the Khon Muang unreached people group (also known as the Northern Thai people). This is the third largest people group in Thailand, with somewhere between 6-7 million people. It is not only one of the largest unreached people groups in Thailand but it is also a part of what many call “World A” with less than ½ of even 1% claiming to be followers of Jesus. Not only is Chiangrai the heart of this very needy unreached people group, it is also where dozens of other unreached people groups live that have connections not only in Thailand but also in Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and China.

It was July 2001 that our family moved up North from Bangkok with a sense of a very clear calling from God to establish an English language school and to utilize this platform not only to bless the community but to utilize the relationships developed through the platform as a means to plant what we envisioned as a “mother church.” Our desire was to start as a house church but then to grow and establish a strong purpose driven “mother church” that had the DNA capable of truly impacting Northern Thailand for Jesus and beginning a discipleship movement that would ultimately be used of God to facilitate additional church planting and the sending out of national Thai missionaries from this “mother church.” This church is now officially called Baan Athitaan Church and this month of October we celebrate 16 years of existence of seeing hundreds of Thai people give their hearts to Jesus and begin to learn to walk with Him as a deeply committed follower of Jesus.

We can affirm and have had several partners affirm that God has had His hand of blessing on this work since its very beginning, not because of who we are or how smart we are, but simply because we received and embraced with joy the vision God had for this work and have tried to honor God and to be faithful to this calling and vision now for 16 years in Chiang Rai. What started in our home as a house church on our first Sunday in October 2001 with 8 people, our family of 6 and 2 other people, has blossomed into a very warm, vibrant, and active church family representing as best we can identify at least 23 different language/people groups that all come together to worship our great God at Baan Athitaan Church every Sunday morning.

We are not saying any of this to boast at all because we are very much aware that “apart from Jesus we can do nothing,” but we have been blessed by God in part simply because we have tried to abide in Christ and let His Word abide in us and we have intentionally tried to honor God by joining Him in what He has been doing and in what He wants to get done. Where many missionaries in Thailand claim that the work is hard and the Thai people do not want to follow Jesus, we want to proclaim a very different message and one we consider consistent with the teachings of God and that message is this: that God is at work all around us. Over the last 16 years in Northern Thailand, we have experienced seeing and being involved in hundreds of Thai people giving their hearts to Jesus and many of them becoming the first persons in their entire family to become followers of Jesus. This is not the work of man but is the work of God, and to Him belongs all the glory and honor. Not only have many of you donated money to NTIM for this work in the past, but also many of you have come on mission trips to help in this work and you too have shared deeply in this blessing.

As we have shared many times before, we have been very careful to build the flock and work of God before ever purchasing a piece of land, and we are now very happy to say that we have purchased a piece of land but without a building, we are still having to rent our current building until we can put up our own building. We believe it is God’s timing to say to the darkness that we are here to stay and to establish a permanent beach head for God’s work through putting up a multi-purpose facility where we can also keep the costs of English language learning at a level where anyone from any socio economic background can study with us. We have now begun phase 2 of the project and that is raising funds for the building materials and mobilizing volunteer teams to come and help us put up this multi-purpose facility. This facility will house the Field office for NTIM. It will also house Grace Language School, and offices for Baan Athitaan Church. This building will be used to bring glory to God every single day. Every single day this building will be used for the purposes of teaching, evangelism, discipleship, leadership training, church planting and the expansion of the kingdom of God.

We are in the process of working with a key partner in the US that will help  us coordinate volunteer construction teams to come out and help us put this facility up for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom. We are also in the process of planning to work with another key partner who represents an Australian organization that will help us supervise the construction process. We are estimating that the building materials, and required permits, will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000 for the totality of Phase 2. That total cost of $300,000 is based upon an assumption that we are able to utilize volunteers teams to do the bulk of the work which we believe is not only possible, but will bring Honor to God as Christians all over the world work together for the sake of the Great Commission and reaching some of the least reached people groups in our world today.

We can envision beginning the construction process as early as January 2018, but more likely closer to March, depending upon how quickly we are able to raise the funding needed. We currently do not have anything in the bank for our building project having recently spent it for the purchase of land but we believe God is able to do more than we ask or think, and we really believe that God is going to begin providing those funds soon through the generosity of His people.

We Invite You To Join God in What He is Doing in Northern Thailand by Buying Some Bricks

We want to implement an idea of “buying bricks” in order to raise this $300,000 dollars needed. In order to make it easy to understand and easy for everyone or every family to be able to “donate” and buy at least one brick we are setting the cost of each “brick” at $25. If we take the total cost of $300,000 needed and divide it by the cost of 1 brick ($25) then we need donations for 12,000 bricks. 12,000 X 25 = 300,000. What we are asking each of you to do is to pray about donating or “buying” as many bricks as you feel the Lord would have you purchase. For some of you who are on very tight budgets, that may mean buying only 1 brick and sending in to NTIM as a donation
of $25 dollars as your part in joining God in putting up this multi-purpose facility. For others, you may sense the Lord wants you to purchase the equivalent of 10 bricks ($250) or 100 bricks ($2,500) or even 1000 bricks ($25,000). But no matter how many bricks you are able to donate, every brick will be greatly appreciated. If you know that your company gives toward a non-profit organization at the end of every year, maybe you might consider asking that company to buy some bricks as well.

Please also consider advocating for us and sharing this need with some of your friends or with your Sunday School class or with churches that may have a heart for reaching the unreached and want to join God in making a huge difference for the advancement of God’s kingdom in very needy places. Remember also that NTIM is a registered 501c non-profit organization in the USA allowing all of your donations to be considered tax deductible. These donations can be sent to our mailing address in Birmingham, AL or made online at our website at www.gontim.org

If you are from a country outside the USA and would like to make a donation directly to our foundation here in Thailand, you may do that by sending a wire transfer to Channel of Blessing Foundation. Bank Name: Bangkok Bank, Swift Code: BKKBTHBK, Bank Account Name: Channel of Blessing Foundation, Bank Account Number: 537-040-7594. If you do that, please follow that up with an email to pray4ntim@gmail.com so that we will be able to allocate those funds according to your designation.

Thank you for your prayers, your partnership, and your commitment to the great commission of our Lord Jesus. Thank you for joining God in this project and for buying some “bricks.” May our God bless you for your generosity for the sake of His Kingdom.

Reaching and Transforming the lives of 1st Generation Believers – Oct 17, 2017

Yesterday when I opened up my Facebook, a “memory” post came up that lead me down the path of reflecting on the first few years of our lives in Thailand. Our family spent the first two years in Thailand in Bangkok learning the primary language of Central Thai, learning a very different culture and lifestyle, learning how to adjust and help our children adjust to this “new world” we were living in and most importantly, learning how to continue to walk with God in this new setting and live out a life of obedience to His leadership to join Him in His great work of redemption among the various unreached people groups represented as “Thai Citizens.”

I really don’t want this update to be long but did want to share with all of you on our email listing some of what I shared with our friends on Facebook yesterday. Basically here is what I shared with them and want to share with you today.

Thinking about our first years in Chiang Rai 16 years ago after spending 2 years in Bangkok and realizing just how teaching English has truly built bridges to the hearts of the people in Northern Thailand, we moved our family up to the most Northern province in Thailand called Chiang Rai which is the heart of the Khon Muang unreached people group (upg) and in the midst of dozens of other unreached people groups with connections into Laos, Myanmar, and China.

We moved to Chiang Rai with a “vision” and “mission” from God to establish a platform of teaching English as a means to bless the community and provide a natural avenue to begin the process of planting a church which would start as a house church but that would not stay a house church but our hope was that it would have the blessing of God upon it and grow into a purpose driven, community type church that would embrace all cultures and peoples living in and around Northern Thailand and would be a church that God was pleased to use to evangelize, reach, disciple, and train people from some of the least reached people groups in our world today. What a joy is has been for all of us here who have joined God in this work to see him use ordinary people like you and me to make a tremendous difference in advancing the kingdom of our Lord Jesus in this great country and beyond.

This is KunKru Peatie when she was a teenager studying at the Lighthouse Language Center which for all practical purposes has now become Grace Language School.

Nong Peat was the first person to be led to the Lord and baptized through the ministry of our language school and was a part of the beginnings of what we now call Baan Athitaan Church. I am not sure who that young person is baptizing her. :)
Since this time we have seen hundreds of young people give their lives to Jesus, most of whom like Peat are the 1st person in their entire family to become a follower of Jesus and like Peat who are from one of the least reached people groups in the entire world today, the Khon Muang being 6-7 million strong and less that ½ of 1% followers of Jesus.

I am so grateful for the hundreds of people who have come out from various parts of the world to help us in this great work. I am also very excited about what God has in store in the days ahead. My prayer today "Lord, we are yours and are ready, willing, able, and planning to continue to be about your business. Help us to walk humbly with you, to do the right things, and to love kindness like Your Word tell us in Micah 6;8. Help us to honor You and to be good "moons" letting the light from the "sun-Son" shine through us to light up the darkness and point the lost to the One and only true and living God. Here we are, Lord in Northern Thailand where You have sent us! and we are staying as long as You want us to stay because You are Good and we want to obey You and bring honor to Your name and advance Your kingdom through loving the Thai people like You love them."

Please remember to pray for us and for the millions of Thai people who do not know Jesus as their personal Savior.  Please also remember that this month to pray for all the Thai people as they say good bye to their beloved King who passed away 1 year ago October 13. Pray that they would bring closure to a very important chapter in their lives. May their experience of living under such a humble and benevolent man provide an opportunity for them to come to know the ultimate King of Heaven, Jesus Christ.

Urgent Prayers Needed - Kindness - October 7

Prayers Needed... I have sensed a special touch from the Lord this week as I have been preparing a message for this Sunday on "Kindness." I have just been utterly blown away with some of the things God has shown me in His Word this week and I am "chomping at the bit" to share some of these things with our awesome church family at Baan Athitaan Church here in the heart of the 10-40 Window in Northern Thailand this Sunday.

I have always loved the passage in Micah 6:8 that says,

"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible but I have never really understood why the Lord says we are to "love kindness." I think I am beginning to understand and trying to live it out in my life and then begin to share it with others. Pray for me as I share these thoughts with God's people here in Chiangrai in just a little over 18 hours.

“Celebrating God’s Goodness, His Provision, His Protection, and His Leadership”– Oct 03, 2017

Joining God in His Great Work of Reaching and Discipling Thai People – Oct 03, 2017

As you hear me say quite often, I genuinely love Thai people and especially Thai young people. Yes, I love Thai children and older Thai people as well but I am wired to connect with Thai young people, both high schoolers and university students. God has allowed me and our family to be a part of His work of seeing hundreds of young Thai people give their hearts to Jesus and most of them are truly first generation followers of Jesus, meaning they are the first or second person in their entire family to choose to follow Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Let me tell you a little about what has been going on.

“Love Seeds Youth Camp-Sept 1-3, 2017”

As I write this update, I am reflecting on the leadership development of our university students and our Thai Staff. They organized and basically ran an awesome youth camp a couple of weeks ago we called “Love Seeds 2” as a part of our ministry discipleship and outreach of Baan Athitaan Church.

Our Thai staff and our Thai church family at Baan Athitaan Church reflect the reality that God almighty is at work in amazing ways drawing people to Himself from some of the least reached people groups on the face of the planet. Our church represents over 23 different people groups, some of which are the some of the least reached in the entire world today. Our church also has several “missionary” families that are committed to reaching the Thai people as well.
We are thankful to God to be able to serve and provide a church home to every person in our community. We are also thankful for the opportunity to serve as a church home for several Christian children’s homes that were a part of this awesome Youth Camp. We are thankful for the opportunity the leadership at these children’s homes gives us as a church family to pour into and to disciple these young people. A special thank you to CFPM, Baan Eden, Happy Home, and Baan Zion for letting us be a part of your Spiritual life and family. Please pray for all who attended our youth camp as we taught them the importance of “Being Brave and Courageous” to live out their lives for Jesus and to be the salt and light of Jesus when they are with family, with friends, with neighbors, and at school. Here is a link to a short video clip from the camp.

Facilitating a Possible New Church Plant and Prayer for Healing from Truck Accident on August 26, 2017.

We believe that God has put it in on our hearts to begin plowing the ground for the beginnings of a new church plant in the province of Phayao which is just South of Chiang Rai. It is a province that does not have even one “Baptist” church in the whole province of over 500,000 people yet it has a very rapidly growing university student population at the University of Phayao. This year there are a few of the young ladies from our church that are a part of Baan Eden that have recently started their freshman year there so several of our Thai Staff went down to the University of Phayao to visit and follow up with these young ladies Saturday Aug 26th. As they were headed back to Chiang Rai in the middle of the afternoon, the truck left the road and went into the median and missed hitting a couple of trees and came to an abrupt stop after hitting the embankment.

Boom, who was driving at the time, walked away with no injuries but pretty shaken up. Pii Phet, who was sitting in the front as well, was pretty shaken up and was in the hospital for several days and received a fractured neck but is now recovering well. Nong Bee, who recently came on staff got the biggest brunt of the accident and actually received a fractured neck and several cuts although she has been out of the hospital over a week, she was still wearing a neck brace up until last week and needs your prayers for healing. Please join us in praying for God’s continued healing for these precious partners of ours as well as our vehicle situation. The truck is now at the garage and they are evaluating how much the cost of repairs will be. Here is what our truck looks like.

 “Celebrating Land Provision” -

Please bear with me and let me “tell the story” especially for those of you who are new to our work and have not heard about our vision for the days ahead. I am “wordy” but I like to paint the picture with words.

As we have shared many times before, we are seeing God’s hand at work in the heart of South East Asia changing peoples’ lives like never before. God is giving us great access through our English language platform to some of the least reached peoples in all of Asia and your donations and partnership with us are truly making an impact for the Kingdom of God.

Many of you have been praying about our land situation and we announced the good news that on June 20, 2016, we signed a contract to purchase a piece of land that we believe is right for us. We made a deposit on the land and the owner started the process of getting all the paperwork in order to transfer ownership to our foundation so that we can complete Phase I of our Beach Head Vision. Then we entered into a time of “WAITING.” Not just sitting by and waiting, but very actively following up and doing all that we were asked to do. Then on July 26, 2017, one year and one month and six days after we signed our contract to buy, I am pleased to announce that PHASE 1 of Project “Lighting up the Darkness” is officially complete.

God provided us with enough money through your generous donations to purchase an appropriate piece of land in very close proximity of the University of Rajabhat. I am very happy to announce that this land is now officially owned by NTIM’s sister foundation in Thailand called Channel of Blessing Foundation. YEA!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!! GOD IS GREAT!!! THERE IS NOONE LIKE OUR GOD!!!!! I am reminded of Psalm 86:10-12 that says, “For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever.…" Psalm 86:10-12

I want to take a moment and thank all of you who gave to NTIM so that we could purchase this land without any debt. I also want to say thank you to all who prayed for us! Thank you. Thank you for joining God in what He is doing here in Northern Thailand. Phase 1 of this project is officially completed with the transfer of ownership of the land into the name of our foundation. Now begins Phase 2. Phase two is the planning for the building, raising support for the cost of construction, coordinating volunteers to come and help with the construction, and beginning construction. There are many things that will need to be decided soon.

What started out with a small group of 8 believers in the Johnson home implementing a “dream” and “vision” of an English language school as a platform to bless the community and to facilitate the planting of a strong purpose driven community church some 16 years ago, has blossomed into a growing, thriving, community focused church called Baan Athitaan Church. Our church today is made up of people from over 23 identifiable people groups and involved in outreach/evangelistic ministries related to teaching English through Grace Language School (GLS), reaching out to university students, caring for those affected by HIV/AIDS, caring and ministering to various children’s homes, reaching out to the community and neighboring countries, reaching out through a growing soccer ministry, serving as a first responder church to natural disasters, and most importantly, making disciples of all the peoples and nations God brings across our path.

NEED FOR MORE PERMANENCY AND LOWER OVERHEAD COSTS
We have been very intentional these past 16 years after we finished language school in Bangkok and moved up North to Chiang Rai to focus upon evangelism, discipleship and building the people of God into a family. This is our first time to purchase a piece of property and begin the process of putting up a physical structure of our own. We have spent the last 16 years investing our people and resources into making disciples, building a flock and creating various outreach platforms and ministries to impact this part of God’s world for Jesus. As I have shared with you before, we  sense that it is God’s timing to now say to the darkness that ‘we are here to stay’ through the purchase of land and then by building a multi-purpose facility that will facilitate a greater ability to reach the nations for Jesus and that will strengthen the integrity of our outreach platforms.

All of you who know me well know that I am committed to doing what God wants to be done and will do it with all of my strength. I am very careful to be a good steward of the finances that you have entrusted to us to manage.
We are grateful to God for allowing us to join Him in making disciples here in Northern Thailand these last 18 years, but we are also at a time where we must not falter and must move toward advancing the kingdom of God in Thailand. We cannot do that without you (through your prayers, your donations, and your volunteer trips) and we cannot do that without the blessing and leadership of God. This work has never been about us but has always been about joining God in His desire to reach some of the least reached people groups in the world and make disciples from these people groups to advance the Kingdom of God on earth.

Please pray for us as we seek to follow the leadership of our Lord in moving this process toward what we believe is God’s Beachhead Vision for NTIM’s future through beginning of Phase 2 –the process of raising money for construction and planning volunteer construction teams coming to help us build. Our architect estimates that it will cost us somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000 dollars to build our multi-purpose facility and we are now open to receiving donations for this last and final Phase II of the project.

KING OF THAILAND
I love Thailand and I have the greatest respect for the Great King Bhumibol whom I had the privilege of living here in Thailand during His reign and even had the opportunity to join Him on Father's Day at the King's Palace as he gave his speech to the nation shortly after coming to Thailand on December 5, 1999.

October 2017 is a month of “mourning,” here in Thailand. One year ago, on October 13, 2016, King Bhumibol - The Great, passed away. He had served the Thai people for more than 70 years. He was the longest reigning King in modern history and in my opinion one of the very few truly servant leaders of a nation. He humbly served the people of Thailand by striving to better the lives of ALL of the Thai people, no matter their perceived place in society.
He created countless ‘Royal’ projects, ranging from infrastructure improvements, to agricultural, to manufacturing, that have impacted every aspect of daily life in Thailand. His legacy and impact will live on in the lives and hearts of Thai people and in the lives and hearts of those of us who may have Western roots but who have come to deeply love and respect this great kingdom we call Thailand. At the end of October, Thailand will hold ceremonies for the funeral and cremation for King Bhumibol - The Great.

Please take this opportunity this month to pray for the Thai people as they say good bye to their beloved King and bring closure to a very important chapter in their lives. May their experience of living under such a humble and benevolent man provide an opportunity for them to come to know the ultimate King of Heaven, Jesus Christ.

Official 10th Anniversary of the existence of Northern Thailand Impact Ministry (NTIM)

Today, September 11, is the official 10th Anniversary of the existence of Northern Thailand Impact Ministry. After almost two years of praying, planning, casting vision, organizing, recruiting, installing board members, and writing up Articles of Incorporation, God allowed David Howell (the President of NTIM) and I to go down to the Jefferson County Office in Alabama to register the Articles of Incorporation for NTIM as a charitable, non-profit organization. That day was September 11, 2007. We are very thankful to God and to all of our Board Members and Partners and Supporters who have worked with us over these last 10+ years as we have embraced God's work to take the gospel and love of Jesus into some of the least reached people groups in our world today and to make disciples of these truly 1st generation believers. Thank you Jesus, for letting me and my family be a part of Your great work of redemption and discipleship in and around Northern Thailand and for not giving up on this "work in progress" ordinary person called Michael Johnson. May Your Name be exalted and Your Kingdom expanded all for the glory of Your Worthy and Holy Name.

"There is no one like You among the gods; O Lord, nor are there any works like Yours. All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and they shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O Lord, I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your Name. I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; And will glorify Your name forever. For Your lovingkindness toward me is great, and You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol." Psalm 86:8-13

Building Bridges With The Next Generation - Thailand Update - July 6, 2017

I genuinely love young people. Yes, I love children and older people as well but I am wired to connect with young people, especially young people in Thailand both high schoolers and university students. God has allowed me and our family to be a part of His work of seeing hundreds of young Thai people give their hearts to Jesus and most of them are truly first generation followers of Jesus, meaning they are the first or second person in their entire family to choose to follow Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

Over the 18 years we have served here in Thailand, we have seen God use many people and many things to help this new generation of Thai young people have a chance to hear the greatest story of love and redemption that could ever be told. But how can they hear unless someone goes and tells them? How can they understand unless someone goes and lives among them and invests their lives to making disciples from these people? And how can those people go and God’s work be sustained unless partners like you pray and give for the advancement of the great commission?

“ENGLISH FUN DAY” for Young People
As I wrote this update yesterday, I was sitting in the auditorium of a school in the MaeJan district in the province of Chiangrai just about 20 minutes North of where we live. We were about 30 minutes South of the border of Myanmar, and about 30 minutes West of the border of Laos.

We are there at the invitation of this very large school that asked Grace Language School to come and teach English in the format of what we call an “English Fun Day” for about 120 8th grade students. The teacher that initiated the request is a former graduate of Rajaphat University and is one of my former students at Grace Language School and a good friend of one of our awesome staff whom you all may know as Boom.

We are here with our NTIM/GLS/Baan Athitaan Church team, along with several university students that we are discipling, and with a key partner church team that is here with us from Mississippi. Leading this team is Beverly Bridges, one of our awesome Board Members of NTIM. This is her 10th consecutive year of coming and serving and joining God in His work among the Thai people of Northern Thailand. We are so thankful for volunteers and partners that come out and help us expand the kingdom of our Lord Jesus.

You have heard me say many times that God is using English in mighty ways to reach the hearts of young people and build His church in one of the most needy, yet fascinating places in the world – Northern Thailand.

“ENGLISH CAMP” for University Students
Several weeks ago, Rajabhat University contacted Grace Language School and asked us to lead and design an English Camp for about 26 university students that are 1st and 2nd year students majoring in Public Administration.

That camp took place just last week off campus at a nice resort North of town that was completely funded by Rajabhat University!!! The camp was all day Friday, overnight Friday night, and Saturday morning. It was one of the best camps we have ever experienced and are already seeing fruit from that camp in terms of good friendships and relationships with both the students and the faculty at the university.  Here is a short video clip from that camp.

Make no mistake about it, it takes a lots of time, lots of love, lots of energy, and lots of resources to build relationships of genuine trust with people but oh what a joy it is when we join God in obedience and see Him working in the lives of others. We are deeply thankful to God for allowing us to be a small part of His plans to draw people from this part of God’s World to the cross and to a personal relationship with Jesus.

Thank you for praying for us as we seek to lead others to Jesus and disciple them. Thank you for coming on mission trips to help with God’s work. Thank you for giving through NTIM so that we can serve here and insure that the gospel reaches into some of the least reached people groups in the world today.

Thank you for sharing with others about our work and being an advocate for us and for the unreached people groups that we are targeting.

Short update on land situation.
Many of you have been praying with us these past two years as we have been seeking the Lord regarding Phase I of our Building Project. Phase 1 is buying land for building and Phase 2 is the building process. We are in the final stages of Phase 1. We have now had a contract on a piece of land for 1 year. God has provided us enough money to buy a piece of land and we are in the final stages of getting that land transferred into the name of our foundation. It is quite a long process. We could put it into the name of a Thai person that we trust but we have always tried to do things with integrity, according to the laws of the land, and doing things above board so it has taken us much longer to do things but we are confident that God is pleased with us being patient and doing everything according to the laws of the land.

We are hoping to complete Phase 1 very soon and begin Phase 2.

Phase 2 is the phase where we begin raising funds for the building and asking God to both send us the funds for the building process as well as person to be a “volunteer Construction Team Coordinator” who will coordinate teams to come out and assist with the construction of our facility. We still cannot decide on the time to begin construction until we have the government has finalized our paperwork but we hope to be able to make that decision very soon.

Short update on Caleb and Calvin College.
As most of you know, our youngest son Caleb has graduated from high school and is now with Hope in North Carolina visiting with our oldest daughter, Jessica, and her family. They will be going to the Birmingham area soon for a few weeks before returning to North Caroline before Hope then heads back to Thailand the end of this month. Please pray for Caleb as he begins to make the transition of starting University at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.

Short update on Finances.
Please remember to pray for us and for our support levels. I REALLY DO NOT LIKE TO TALK ABOUT MONEY but we are deeply in need of some additional monthly supporters. Not only does the support go to help our family stay and serve here on the field, but some of it goes to help Liz & Dallas, some of it goes to help our awesome Thai staff, some of it goes to help support of keeping our costs down at Grace Language School, some of it goes to help toward our awesome soccer outreach to university students, some of it goes to help toward our outreach and ministry to about 30 children who are infected and affected by HIV Aids, some of it goes to help toward assisting in all the discipleship work that goes on through Baan Athitaan Church, and some of it goes to help toward assisting teams when they come out to help us with the expansion of God’s work and the focus on reaching several unreached people groups in a strategic way but NONE OF IT GOES FOR ANY EXECUTIVE ADMINSTRATIVE SALARY!!!! O! Nada, Nothing. Zip… but all of our board members of NTIM serve as Volunteers for NTIM and the only board member that receives even 1 penny is our family as field personnel. What an awesome Board NTIM has. Thank you Board Members!

We would be very grateful to see our number of monthly supporters increase from about 13 people (included in this number are 4 churches that support us) to about 25 or 30 people (or churches). No amount is too small and all donations through NTIM are tax deductible and go for a very worthy cause of “making disciples of some of the least reached people groups” in and around Northern Thailand.

Something God is teaching me these days…..
Last but not least I want to share a verse God has been teaching me over the years. It is a verse written by the Apostle Paul to Timothy basically saying…. Everything that I have ever taught you has been aimed at one goal….. teaching you how to love… love with a pure heart…. Love with a good conscience… and love with a genuine faith. Wow. Listen to this verse from 1 Timothy 1:5 “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” Life and success is not about how much money we have, how much status we have attained in society, how many possessions we have accumulated, how many things we have done,  how many places we have been to, how many things on our bucket list we have been able to check off…no…. when it is all said and done…life and success is not about any of those things… rather it is about love… how well we have learned to love God…. And how well we have learned to express love to others… our family… our church family…. our friends… our coworkers, our neighbors…. our enemies… and even to our missionaries who represent us and God’s love in other parts of the world among people who need to love of Jesus in their lives. One of the key goals of the teaching of the Bible is to love.

Your Servants to the Nations in and around Northern Thailand,

Michael for the team
